Mustafa Johnson seems to be enjoying his time in Montreal. It was announced on Feb. 27 that the 2017 Turlock High graduate reached a one-year extension to keep him with the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes through the 2026 season. The terms of the deal were not made public.
Johnson, a dominant defensive tackle in the CFL ranks, was already under contract for the 2025 campaign. Last season, he amassed 35 defensive tackles, six sacks, one blocked kick and had four knockdowns in 15 games.
“Mustafa is one of the best players at his position, and we’re thrilled that we were able to get him under contract for an additional year,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a press release. “Not only is he one of our key players on defense, he’s also an important leader in our locker room. He is about to enter the prime of his career, and we feel he’ll only continue to get better.”
In 40 career games, the former Bulldog and University of Colorado standout has registered 96 tackles, 15 sacks and one touchdown. The 26-year-old has also suited up in five playoff games, including Montreal’s Grey Cup victory over Winnipeg in 2023. Johnson was named to the All-CFL East Division team that season after he finished with 47 tackles and seven sacks in 18 games.
“I feel like Montreal is my home and I appreciate the confidence that the team puts in me,” Johnson said in late 2023 after re-signing with the team through the 2025 season.
The Alouettes play their first preseason game of 2025 on May 24 and will officially kick off the regular season at home against defending Grey Cup champion Toronto. Montreal’s full schedule and broadcast information can be found at en.montrealalouettes.com/schedule.
