LODI — Hilmar’s Valerie Quaid was the lone golfer to break 90, carding an 87 and leading the Yellowjackets to the Trans-Valley League Mid-Year Tournament title on Monday at Micke Grove Golf Links.
In addition to Quaid, Lilly Garza posted a 94, followed by Malia Arteaga’s 110. Angelina Cruz shot 120 and Grace Vitorino chipped in with a 136 to round out the scoring for Hilmar, which finished with a tally for 411 — 14 strokes better than runner-up Escalon (425).
“Valerie and Lilly have been great leaders so far this year, with their scores as well as helping with the new golfers to the team,” said Hilmar coach Ty Pettigrew. “They are currently 1-2, respectively, in overall league average and continue to play well each match.
“Malia has been consistent with her scores, giving us a solid top-three golfers.”
Ripon Christian (431) took third, followed by Ripon (437), Hughson (478), Sonora (523) and Orestimba (590).
Ripon’s Cameron Seefeldt (91) was four strokes off Quaid’s pace. She was followed by Garza and Escalon’s Rose Percey, who tied for third.
“We’re looking forward to the second half of league play,” said Pettigrew, whose team is off to a 5-1 start. “We start that with a match against Ripon Christian at Jack Tone Golf Course on Thursday.”
