The bleachers inside the Pitman High gymnasium were full on Tuesday night as wrestling enthusiasts from across Turlock and Stanislaus County watched local teams begin their Central California Athletic League campaigns.
Present were host team Pitman and crosstown program Turlock, who won each dual between their boys’ and girls’ varsity teams.
The Pride, the reigning league champions, defeated Gregori 72-3 and Modesto 78-6 in boys action. The gals were similarly dominant, taking down the Jaguars and Panthers with matching 72-6 scores.
The Bulldogs, who had their streak of three straight league titles snapped last season, put up just as lopsided scores. The boys defeated Gregori 55-18 and dismantled Modesto 65-9. The girls, meanwhile, defeated the Jaguars 42-13 and 42-12.
Both programs will travel to Downey High on Wednesday for their second and final tri-duals of the year, where they will each face off with the Knights, as well as Enochs. They will then clash on Wed., Jan 29 inside the Louise Marchant Gym on the campus of Turlock High for a one-on-one dual that could likely decide the champion, depending on Wednesday’s results.
