Although a combined 17 athletes from Turlock and Pitman high track and field teams made it to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet at Elk Grove High last week, no locals will move on to the State meet.

“The California state meet is the toughest meet in the country to get into. The smallest meet of all the state meets, for the biggest state,” said Pitman head coach Thad Moren. “Even to compete in the Masters meet is an honor. Our kids saw it through to the end and showed great honor in the competition.”

One of those to stand out was Cerah Moren, who competed in four events during the meet.

“No Pride member, boy or girl, had ever accomplished that milestone,” said Thad.

Moren was part of the 4x4 and 4x1 girls relay teams along with individual performances in the 200 meter and discus.

She placed ninth in discus after a throw of 109 feet, 10 inches and took 20th in the 200 with a time of 27.19.

“Next milestone up for the future Pride athletes is an athlete that can qualify for four State events,” Thad said of Cerah.

Pitman's 4x1 girls relay team of Brianna Smith, Kiana Clay, Cerah Moren and Serena Walls placed 16th with a time of 49.68.

Clay also competed and took 10th in the 400 meter race with a time of 57.66.

In the girls triple jump, junior Michelle Griffin placed 16th with a jump of 34 feet, 6.75 inches and freshman Cierra Verdone took 19th with a clearance of 34 feet, 5.25 inches.

The 4x4 relay team of  Grace Willming, Cierra Verdone, Moren and Emily Vander Weide finished in 21st place with a time of 4:18.66.

Turlock's 4x1 girls relay team of Willming, Klay, Moren and Brianna Smith placed 12th with a time of 49.20. Katie Green placed 10th in the discus.

“I am pretty ecstatic about Katie Green's 10th place in the discus,” said Turlock coach JoAnn Davison, “and the 4x1 team. The entire post season was a great reflection of a great coaching staff coupled with hard working kids. I can't take too much credit. The future is looking pretty bright for the Bulldogs.”

On the boys side, Pitman's Isaiah Marable placed 8th in the 400 meter race with a time of 49.87.

Cristian Cooley placed 8th overall for Pitman in discus with a throw of 142 feet, 11 inches and teammate Anthony Carbajal took 19th after a throw of 131 feet, 6 inches.

The Pride's Brendan Patterson placed 16th in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 6.75 inches.
