A pack of Hughson Huskies and a swarm of Hilmar Yellowjackets filled this year’s list of Trans-Valley League football honors, as voted on by the coaches. A total of 16 student-athletes between the two schools were honored.
Receiving one of the top awards was Hilmar‘s Caden Bailey, who saw time at quarterback, running back and wide receiver throughout his junior year. He rushed for 1,788 yards and 19 touchdowns while hauling in 12 passes for 253 yards and two scores to earn Offensive Player of the Year.
“I am extremely grateful that I was voted for this award,” Bailey said. “I would like to give thanks to all my coaches, as well as to my lineman for giving me the opportunities to perform and achieve this award.”
One of those lineman was Alex Cardenas, who took home the Outstanding Offensive Lineman award. Fellow lineman Jaden Strickler was named to the First Team Offense. Strickler was joined on the list by teammate Logan Cardoso and Hughson’s Alex Villareal, who each made the list at the running back position.
Huskies quarterback Robert McDaniel was also named Offensive First Team alongside his top weapon, wideout Larkin Meyer, and lead blocker, tackle Navi Arretche.
On the other side of the ball, Hughson’s Ryan Borelli was named Outstanding Defensive Lineman. Teammate Max Mankins and Hilmar’s Dakota Maynard were also linemen named to the First Team Defense.
At the linebacker position, Hughson’s David Burns and Hilmar’s Cody Bray and Devin Colston received First Team nods, as did defensive backs Caden Wood of Hilmar and David Delgado of Hughson.
The second-team selections on offense were linemen Maynard, Jackson Takhar of Hilmar and Hughson’s Carlos Guizar and Edwin Olivo. At tight end was Makins and teammate Malakai Sumter at receiver.
The second-team defensive selections were linemen Matt Avila of Hilmar and Ivan Flores of Hughson. Joining them on the second team were linebackers Guizar, Meyer and Hilmar’s Jack Inderbitzen and John Labno.
