The Turlock High track and field program is in the driver’s seat with one last Central California Athletic League team meet left on the schedule.
At the second CCAL meet of the season on Thursday at Gregori High School in Modesto, the Bulldogs won both boys’ and girls’ varsity team competitions. Pitman was a runner-up on the girls’ side, while placing third in the boys’ team standings.
The Turlock girls posted a whopping 277.5 points to claim first place, with the Pride racking up 104 points. The Bulldog boys tallied 223.5 points, while Pitman was 157.5 points back.
RUNNING
Junior Larson Wejmar won multiple events for the Bulldogs on Thursday, taking home the 1600-meter dash in 4 minutes, 43.64 seconds and then the 3200-meter race in 9 minutes, 50.5 seconds.
Similar dominance was displayed by senior sprinter Zoe Lamur, who led the Turlock ladies with three wins. She won the 100-meter in 12.53 seconds, the 200-meter in 26.1 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 46.03 seconds.
Dante Jenkins was a two-time winner for the Pride in hurdling events — the 110-meter in 15.9 seconds and the 300-meter in 41.5 seconds.
As part of two relay-winning teams were juniors Nayeli Mattison, Emerson Newton and senior Adelyn Persons. The trio joined sophomore Karma Warren to win the 4x400 relay (4:14.99) and then teamed up with junior Avery Carlson to claim the 4x800 relay (9:58.5). Carlson also won the 3200-meter race (11:13.37).
Turlock junior Ricardo Lacerda won the 400-meter dash in 50.88 seconds, followed by senior teammate Logan Petty claiming the 800-meter in 2 minutes, 3.8 seconds. In girls’ running, sophomore Faviola Hernandez won the 400-meter (1:02.53), sophomore Mylie Olson won the 800-meter (2 minutes, 29.3 seconds), and senior Aubrey Webb won the 1600-meter (5:44.78) for the Bulldogs.
The Turlock grouping of seniors Angel Trefry Bet George, Alexa Sandoval and Kealani Solis-Coelho and junior Serene Klair won the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.86 seconds.
Senior Brooke Schumacher won the 100-meter hurdles for the Bulldogs in 16.47 seconds.
JUMPING
The jumping was dominated by the Bulldogs, who won seven of eight events they participated in.
For the boys, senior Bradlee Green won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 inches. Senior teammate Joseph Delte claimed the long jump at 20 feet, 6.5 inches. Fellow senior Cash Burton won the triple jump with leaps totalling 43 feet. Senior Justin Strode won the pole vault at 15 feet.
For the girls, sophomore Haley Stiles won the high jump at 5 feet even. The long jump was won by Lamur with a leap of 17 feet, 11 inches. Schumacher won the female pole vault competition at 11 feet even.
THROWING
Pitman junior Saveena Gadri won the 4-kilogram girls’ shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 10 inches, while Turlock freshman Isabella Macias claimed the girls’ discus competition with a heave of 94 feet, 9.5 inches. Sophomore Tanner Linhares won the boys discus for the Bulldogs with a mark of 141 feet, 1 inch.
The third CCAL meet of the year takes place April 16 from Downey High School.
