In their own city, the varsity track and field teams of Turlock and Pitman high schools shined against a handful of Modesto schools in the first Central California Athletic League meet of the season on Wednesday, combining to win 30 of the 34 events held at Joe Debely Stadium.
Walking out of the venue with the most winners were the Bulldogs with 23, which helped catapult them to the top spot in each the boys’ and girls’ team standings. The Pride won seven events. The Bulldogs posted a team score of 316 in boys events — 234 ahead of second-place Downey. The Pride were four points behind the Knights. On the girls side, Turlock posted 333 points, while Pitman was the runner-up with 110.

A handful of student-athletes from each program had multiple victories.
Pitman junior Jonathan Williams won the premier sprinting events on the boys side, running the 100-meter in 11:04 seconds and completing the 200 in 22.27 seconds. Teammate Avery Carlson dominated distance events for the girls team, winning the 1600- and 3200-meter races with times of 5:12.9 and 11:37.41, respectively.
Turlock seniors Zoe Lamur and Logan Petty also won a pair of individual events. Lamur won the girls’ 100 with a time of 12.92 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a mark of 46.85 seconds. Petty took home the 800 in 2 minutes, 2.65 seconds and the 1600 in 4 minutes, 39.34 seconds.
Teammate Angel Trefry Bet George won the girls’ 200 in 26.8 seconds, and joined Alexa Sandoval, Kealani Solis-Coelho and Serene Klair to win the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.94 seconds. A similar story unfolded for another Lady Bulldog, sophomore Mylie Olson, who won the 400 (1:02:00) and 800 (2:23.33) before winning the 4x400 relay (4:16.42) alongside Faviola Hernandez, Halee Whiting and Emma Ward.

Turlock junior Ricardo Lacerda was another winner in individual and team events, first taking the boys’ 400-meter in 51.57 seconds, then finishing the 4x400 relay with Matthew Tsymbal, Zayn Hamilton and Ismael Hernandez with a 3:33.56 mark.
The Pride won the other two relay races of the afternoon, both 4x800 meter contests. David Cisneros, Omar Madriz, Elijah Suarez and Jacob Costa claimed the boys’ race with an 8:53.88 mark, while Adelyn Persons, Aileen Roque, Jade Paniagua and Montana Rodin won the girls’ race with a time of 10:42.9.
Larson Wejmar took the boys’ 3200-meter contest for Turlock with a time of 10:05.08. Teammate Camden Smith claimed the 110-meter hurdles in 16.4 seconds.
In other jumping action, Turlock’s Joseph Delte won the boys’ high jump with a mark of 6-feet. Teammate Bradlee Green won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 11 inches. Cash Burton made it a trifecta with a triple-jump win with a 42-foot, 4-inch mark. Justin Strode also took the boys’ pole vault competition for the Bulldogs with a 14-foot, 6-inch performance.

Joining Lamur in Turlock’s winner’s column in jumping contests was Haley Stiles with her 5-foot high jump mark. Teammate Brooke Schumacher won the girls’ pole vault contest with an 11-foot leap.
Shot put winners were Turlock’s Tanner Linhares (43' 7.5) and Pitman’s Saveena Gadri (36' 1). Isabella Macias won the girls’ discus (101’ 6) for the Bulldogs.
The second CCAL meet is slated for April 3 from Gregori High in Modesto.
