ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lauren Parker

Lauren Parker readily admits that she and her Turlock High volleyball teammates keep a close eye on what’s happening across town.

“Pitman is definitely our main competition,” said Parker, who had 16 digs, 13 kills, four ace serves and three blocks in a 3-0 Central California Athletic League win against Enochs last Wednesday, then registered nine blocks and five digs in a 3-0 win over Modesto on Monday. “We definitely watch what they’re doing, but we can only worry about what we can control.”

The Bulldogs are 15-7 overall this year and 2-0 in league play. Parker says it’s important to keep pace with Pitman, the third-ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section, according to MaxPreps.com.

It’s super important for us to keep pace,” said Parker, who plays outside hitter. “We have to come out strong for the games that we know we can do well in, and focus on a getting the win.”

The Bulldogs host Downey tonight at 6:30 p.m., then travel across town Monday to battle the Pride in a match that will go a long way in determining the CCAL champion.
