For the first time in his high school career, Pitman sophomore Cole Martin is seeing extended time on the basketball court. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is making the most of his opportunities.
During Thursday night’s 62-59 victory over Bear Creek (Stockton), Martin exploded for 25 points, eight rebounds, a block and an assist. He followed the performance up with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals during Saturday’s 55-27 rout of Sonora. The wins improved the Prides record to 11-3.
“It’s definitely a big switch. Around February of this year, I was looking up to people asking them what to do. Come September and October, people are looking at me asking me what to do,” Martin said. “I'm just happy that our school has enough trust in me.”
And though he has scored in double figures in most of the Pride’s games this season, Martin has also prided himself in being a great defender and distributor.
“I just want to just hopefully be looked at as one of the most consistent players in the area on offense and defense,” he continued. “I don't really care what the stats are, I just want to be a big part of winning, no matter how it comes. Scoring or distributing or playing defense, I want to do whatever it takes.”
