While the Centers for Disease Control strongly recommend that children take part in about 60 minutes of physical activity each day, the organization reports that less than 25% of kids are actually reaching that threshold. It’s a trend that a trio of local entrepreneurs are looking to change through a newly established consulting company.
On Friday, the Active Synergy Academy (ASA) was launched by CEO Broc Hamilton, CFO Jessica Hamilton, and Creative Director Rob Kho.
"Our mission is to create a lasting impact by empowering youth, fostering collaboration and promoting wellness," said Broc Hamilton, who was the former director of Turlock Sports Park.
According to a press release, ASA hopes to achieve that mission by offering dynamic activities and wellness programs including flag football leagues, free holiday camps for kids with disabilities, community engagement events and offering scholarships to local students.
The team already has the wheels in motion for several youth activities, including flag football. ASA has signed with the nationally recognized flag football organization, Gridiron, to bring leagues to the community, starting as soon as this November at the Turlock Regional Sports Complex behind Pitman High School. ASA is contracted to run four flag football tournaments, with two in Turlock by the end of the year, in hopes of attracting participants from across the region to in turn provide a significant economic boost through tourism, hospitality and retail.
“We are incredibly excited to be utilizing city facilities for our programs,” Hamilton continued. “This initiative not only provides top-notch venues for our activities but also brings substantial economic benefits to the local area.”
In addition, ASA is expanding to include a flag football division for children under 5 and a more competitive 7v7 league. Registration for flag football is now open at www.TurlockGridiron.com.
The organization’s planned free holiday camps for kids with disabilities are scheduled around the time of Thanksgiving and Christmas. ASA is also introducing an exciting new event—the Community Call Out. This end-of-year community game will see local businesses compete against each other in a fun and friendly elimination tournament, promoting local causes and “further fostering community spirit.”
In coordination with ASA’s launch, Hamilton will also be running 150 miles down Geer Road later this month. Hamilton will display the names of supporting businesses on his shirt, and in late August, those business owners will greet him at the end of the run to present donation checks for the Turlock City Parks and Recreation Department. According to Hamilton, several local businesses have already hopped on board, helping him raise over $5,000 thus far.
