Roughly three months after graduating from Turlock High School, Shaylan Roy-Williams began her journey to establishing herself as one of the best soccer players in Northern California’s community college circuit.

On Friday, the former Bulldog soccer and track star was named to the 2024 California Community College Soccer Coaches Association All-Region team after helping the Modesto Junior College Pirates to a second round playoff appearance and leading the club in goals.

In her freshman campaign, Roy-Williams scored a team-high 11 goals and assisted on another seven scores. Twice she scored two goals in the same game — Sept. 10 in a 5-0 win against Lemoore and Sept. 17 in a 5-0 victory over Skyline of San Bruno. She contributed a total of 29 points to the team.

“This achievement highlights her strong presence on the field and her ability to contribute significantly to her team's offensive efforts,” the team posted on social media. “Her performance has placed her among the top players in the region, making a remarkable impact in her debut season.”

The Pirates finished with a 5-5-1 regular season record in the Big 8 Conference, and defeated Solano 1-0 on Nov. 20 in the opening round of CCCAA Northern California Regional Playoffs. Their season ultimately ended three days later when Fresno City handed them a 7-0 loss.

Other locals who made significant contributions to this year’s team include fellow forward, sophomore Logann Meyer of Hughson High, and freshman goalkeeper Saryna Jaime of Pitman High.

Meyer was just behind Roy-Williams in the scoring column with 10 goals to go along with four assists. Jaime, meanwhile, racked up over 1,110 minutes played over parts of 24 games — including 12 starts — where she recorded 25 saves while allowing 20 goals.
