Unlike the women’s team, the Cal State Stanislaus men’s basketball team will have a tougher assignment during a trip to Southern California. Not only will the Warriors play two of the top teams in the California Collegiate Athletic Association but also one of the best teams in the nation.
The journey starts Thursday, as the Warriors (3-5 overall, 1-3 CCAA) will face No. 15 Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-1 overall, 3-1 CCAA) in conference action at 2:30 p.m. The Toros’ only setback this season was a 59-49 loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Dec. 4.
Leading the way for the Toros is Michael Cox, who is averaging 17 points and 12 rebounds in four conference games.
The Stanislaus women’s team also plays Dominguez Hills earlier in the day, but that Toros team is winless.
On Friday at 2:30 p.m., the Stanislaus men’s team will go up against another tough CCAA opponent in Cal State L.A., which has beaten Stanislaus in the last three meetings and is 7-1 in the last eight games. The Golden Eagles had a three-game winning streak snapped by Dominguez Hills on Dec. 18.
Stanislaus last won a conference game on Dec. 4, when the Warriors topped Humboldt State by 15 points. Reggie Jones is averaging 14.3 points, while Dan Daviess has a three-point goal percentage of .424.
