Cal Poly Pomona scored three times in the match's first 14 minutes as the Broncos won a battle of two first-place teams by defeating Cal State Stanislaus, 3-0, Friday at Kellogg Field.
Entering the weekend, both Pomona and Stanislaus were either in first or tied for first place for their respective divisions of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Warriors, tied for first in the CCAA North with Sonoma State, fell to 8-4-1 overall and 6-4-1 in conference play. Cal Poly Pomona picked up three more points to stay atop of the South standings with 9-3-1, 8-2-1 records.
Stanislaus will now make the long trek back north to take on San Francisco State in San Francisco on Sunday.
In Friday's showdown, the Broncos attacked the net and got three early scores. Luis Gonzales put Pomona ahead 1-0 at 2:43 and Richardo Reyes scored less than two minutes later for a 2-0 Bronco advantage. In the 14th minute, Jonathan Enns made it 3-0.
Unlike the match against Sonoma State on Oct. 2 at Warrior Stadium when Stanislaus rallied from down 3-0 to win 4-3, the Warriors weren't able to repeat that incredible feat on Friday.
