Sophomore All-American Karenee Demery made sure the seniors go out with a win as she led Cal State Stanislaus women’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Cal State East Bay on Sunday at Warrior Stadium.
Demery scored twice and assisted on another as the Warriors beat down the Pioneers to improve to 8-4-4, 7-4-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Demery is tied atop of the Stanislaus record books with 28 career goals.
Freshman Tina Benson also scored her first collegiate goal and Alexia Poon added another score in the final minute of the match for the final count.
"I'm very proud of the way we bounced back," Warriors coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Even though they were disappointed with (Friday night’s 1-0 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay), they had a really positive attitude on Saturday so I was confident they would play well."
The Warriors stay in the hunt for a CCAA Tournament berth as Sonoma State lost at UC San Diego and Chico State beat Cal State Monterey Bay at home on Sunday. Stanislaus is two points behind both Chico State and Sonoma State with two matches remaining.
The best-case scenario for Cal State Stanislaus to win the CCAA North would be by winning both matches next weekend and for Sonoma State to beat Chico State next Sunday. The Warriors can still qualify for the CCAA Tournament with an at-large berth by simply winning both matches.
