Johnson transfers to Montana

After three years with the California Golden Bears, 2020 Turlock High graduate Everett Johnson is taking his talents to the University of Montana.

Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman, joins the Grizzlies with two seasons of eligibility left.

In 15 games with Cal, Johnson appeared in 15 games, including making a pair of starts. He also saw extended time, particularly during the 2022 season, on the field goal and extra point units.

Gonzales hangs up the cleats

While one former Bulldog in Anthony Frias II walks into the UCLA locker room this summer, another walks out.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Big Ten Media Day, all rosters were updated. Notably absent from the Bruins’ list of 119 players was 2021 Turlock High valedictorian Josiah Gonzales. The team confirmed that the 2021 Central California Athletic League Most Valuable Player was no longer on the team, though it appears he is still enrolled at the institution as a full-time student.

Gonzales, who earned a spot on the roster as a walk-on in September, climbed the depth charts as a redshirt sophomore and appeared in two games. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back had three total rushes in games at San Diego State and against North Carolina Central.

Fountain earns degree, foregoes final year of eligibility

The Aztecs of San Diego State will enter the 2024 season without one of their mainstays on the defensive side of the ball.

This spring, 2019 Turlock High graduate Garret Fountain walked the commencement stage. With that moment, he wrapped up his athletic and academic careers and was formally removed from the SDSU roster list.

In five seasons donning the black and red, Fountain saw time at linebacker and defensive end. Last season as one of the team’s defensive captains, the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder started all 12 games and totaled 42 tackles, including five for loss, and a sack as the Aztecs achieved a 4-8 record. In his collegiate career, Fountain appeared in 48 games where he piled up 104 total tackles and 7 sacks.
