Labor Day is to honor America’s workers. They are America’s backbone. Perfect time for a three-day party: barbecues, picnics and pool parties.  It is also one of the busiest weekends on the road. 

According to FOX40 Sacramento, 1,064 DUI arrests were made in California on Labor Day weekend in 2023 and 14 fatal crashes happened. 

In 2022, there were 937 DUI arrests with 27 fatal crashes.  Although 2022 had fewer arrests than 2023, it had 13 more fatal crashes.

When I was 16 in 1992, a drunken driver hit me.  My hearing abilities are damaged, and I have problems talking and walking.  For 30+ years, I do my best daily.     

Taking SR 99 to go home after attending a party?  Make sure you have a sober driver if drinking.  It is not okay to drive just a block if intoxicated or “a little buzzed.”  No need to ruin lives.  Don’t drive drunk.
