William (Bill) Wesley Stammerjohan

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dr. Bill Stammerjohan on October 6, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

After a brief illness, Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

William Wesley Stammerjohan was born January 19, 1948, in Turlock, California to William Gilbert Stammerjohan and Rita May Atkinson.

Bill attended Keyes Elementary School, Turlock High School, Modesto Junior College, UC Davis and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Degree in Accounting. In 1995, he completed his Ph.D. in Accounting at Washington State University. 

Bill married Elizabeth Claire Allison on May 20th, 1970, in Lincoln, California.

Bill’s extraordinary range of professions included: farmer, professional drag racer, truck driver, machinist, race engine builder, businessman, and college professor. 

He was proud of being awarded the Academic Honor of the Harold J. Smolinski Eminent Scholar Chair.

When not at work, Bill’s interests included travel, motorsports, keeping up with family, friends, former students and working on building projects at home. 

He was especially proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed following their various activities.

Bill is survived by his loving soul mate and wife, Claire Stammerjohan, his son Will (Connie) Stammerjohan, daughter Kathy (Mike) Huntzinger, grandchildren William, Anthony and Daniel Stammerjohan, Tiffany Halverson, Brandon Thurston, Mikey and Desi Huntzinger, nephew Dr. Michael (Rocio) Murphy and niece Lori (Juan) Sanchez. 

In addition, he is survived by: Marge Allison-Clinton, Linda (Alan) Murphy-Julien, Art (Julie) Allison, Stanley Leebeck, Zoe (Andrew) Vinall and Phil (Becky) Simms, Cousins; Bob Stammerjohan, Marvin (Merrillana) Stammerjohan, Richard (Charmaine) Stammerjohan, Cyndee (Pete) Elstad, Kevin (Norma) Cederlind and Sally (Jon) Roberson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1:00 at the home of Dr. Alan and Linda Julien. 

Please stop by and bring your absolute best “Bill” story. Telling stories is what Bill loved the most and we will take time to do this to celebrate him. In keeping with his credo, “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!”
