Walter Welker, 59, of Hilmar, passed away on March 7 at home. He was born in Kennett, Mo. to Carl and Joyce Welker in 1950. Walter served in the Army for three years during the Korean War. He lived in the Central Valley for most of his life and settled in Hilmar in 2006. He was a U.S.D.A. inspector for 15 years. Walter was a member of the Hilmar Covenant Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed football, wrestling, video games and camping.
Walter is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Welker, of Hilmar; children, Leona Welker of Merced and Walter Welker, Jr. of Hilmar; and brother, John Welker of Richmond, Va.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Allen Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 15 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at 4 p.m. at Hilmar Covenant Church.
