Ruth “Woutje” DeRooy, 84 of Turlock, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Waddinxveen, Holland to Jan and Willempje Van Elk in 1925. She married Art A. DeRooy following WW II, and then immigrated to Australia in 1954. Their only child, Arthur B., was born 1956 in Sydney. The family immigrated to Sacramento in 1958. Ruth worked clerical jobs, retiring from PERS, State of California, after more than 20 years. She served faithfully with the Sacramento Christian Reformed Church while pursuing hobbies of gardening, crocheting and ballroom dancing. Travel was also a deep love and was reflected in trips she took to national parks, Hawaii, cruises, Israel and Holland.
She is survived by her son, Arthur (Laurel) of Hilmar; and grandchildren, Danae (Adam) Parker and Hans DeRooy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art.
