Reta L. De Somma

Reta L. De Somma was born in New York City in 1933 to Alfred and Nettie Miller. 

Reta was preceded in death by her husband Carmine De Somma and is survived by her brother Jack Ball and her six children, Marina (David) Cummerow, Tony De Somma, John De Somma, Lorraine (John-deceased) Fauria, Daniel (Merry) De Somma, Paul (Kari) De Somma; five grandchildren, and two great­ grandchildren.

Reta graduated from Hastings High School and Wright’s Beauty Academy in Battle Creek, Michigan. 

On a short trip to California, she met her future husband while waiting in line at the bus station. The two were married in Connecticut in 1959 and then permanently moved to Turlock, California in 1961, where they raised their family.

Reta was very active in the Sacred Heart Church, school and Y.L.I. She often volunteered at Sacred Heart School and was instrumental in bringing Bingo to the organization. 

Reta was an excellent cook and she loved throwing annual parties for friends and family. In addition to cooking, Reta loved quilting, she also loved going to Black Oak, Chukchansi and traveling with her husband of 64 years throughout the United States.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Rosary at 5:00 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints University Parish in Turlock. Following the Mass, Reta will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park.
