Mary M. Vierra passed away on March 28, 2017 at the age of 98 in San Francisco, CA.  A beloved mother, sister, and friend, she left this world surrounded by her family. 

Born in San Jose, CA on November 5, 1918, Mary was one of five children born to Antonio and Maria Machado. At five years old, Mary moved to Hilmar with her family where she grew up and attended Fairview School. 

In 1939, she met the love of her life, Frank A. Vierra and on May 1, 1940 they were married. Mary and Frank raised their three children on their dairy farm in Hilmar, CA. 

Mary was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, Altar Society, S.E.S., Cabrillo Club, S.P.R.S.I., Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine, C.P.I.D.S., and a charter member of the Y.L.I. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Arlene Vierra of Hilmar; her two daughters and son-in-law’s, Linda and Loren Lopes of Turlock and Laurette and Kevin Locke of Hilmar; and her brother, Frank Machado of Delhi. Mary is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank A. Vierra; her infant-daughter, Elvira Vierra; her brother, Tony Machado; her two sisters, Angie Vierra and Elvira Fagundes; and her granddaughter, Shauna Vierra. 

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8471 Cypress St., Hilmar.  Interment will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock.
