Martha Jean DeBoard Smithcamp entered into heaven on May 1, 2011. Martha was born on Feb. 22, 1934 in Okemah, Okla. to Otis Marion and Alta Sweeten DeBoard. She had a variety of occupations over the years including homemaker, waitress, newspaper writer, florist and logger! When her children were young she was active in the PTA and was president of the Sun Empire Mother’s Club.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Otis DeBoard and Alta Sweeten DeBoard; husband, Clyde Smithcamp; sisters, Iva Mae Sellers, Dorthea Anna Girard, Delta Ruth Barber, Lena Lou Anderson, Geneva Bell Lay and Faye Nelda DeBoard; and brothers, Lloyd and Floyd DeBoard.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine (Jeff) Schroer, Brenda (Chet) Music and Renee (Bill) Proctor; grandchildren, Michael Music, Jennifer Sewell, Christina Upshaw, Michelle Rank, Mark McAfee, Jeremy  Schroer, Tina Schroer and Heidi Diaz; and great grandchildren, Isaiah Schroer, Jessica, Tyler and Macae Sewell, Audrey, Allison and Aiden Rank Elijah, Emma Ella and Ethan Music, Sarah Upshaw, Lillian Schroer and Jada Diaz.

She didn’t complain about the many trials in life she was given, she always kept her strong faith in Christ and was known for her amazing fortitude. Her family loved her dearly and we will miss our “Nanny.”

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 29 at Calvary Baptist Church in Turlock. It will be officiated by Pastor Rusty Lyons.
