Josephine Avila, 102, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Saturday, March 12. Josephine was born in Rayon, Sonora, Mexico to Andres and Guadalupe Villa in 1908. In the earlier 1930s, she moved to Brawley, Calif. and lived in Turlock since 1947. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, YLI and the Altar Society. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. God and family were her life.
Josephine is survived by her children, Frances Godinez of Turlock and Carmen (Bruce) Alexander of Eureka; grandchildren, Mario (Lynn) Godinez, Sandra Montalvo, Jesse (Andrea) Godinez, Veronica (Terry) Cook, Alexis (Sean) Patten and Erin (Tyler) Lescano; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews, too many to mention.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Avila; and grandson, Frank Godinez.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at Allen Mortuary, followed by a recitation of the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, with burial following at Turlock Memorial Park.
