Jose L. Melo, 81 of Snelling, died on Feb. 4 at his home in Snelling. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Whitehurst, Norton and Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main Street. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2606 S. Walnut Street, Turlock. Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service.
Jose was a dairyman for 36 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church of Turlock, and the Portuguese Fraternal Society of American of Turlock. He was a past president of Fresta do Espirito Santo of Patterson in 1984, 1985 and 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Herminia M. Melo of Snelling; sons, Joe D Melo, John M. Melo, Frank M. Melo and Daniel M. Melo all of Snelling; daughter, Mary L. Baughman of Oakdale; brothers, Frank Melo of Orland and Manuel Melo of Modesto; sisters, Maria Alves of Elk Grove, Mercedes Reis of Turlock, Rosa Nunes of Modesto, Margarida Alves of Manteca, Rosalina Pruganan of Washington D.C. and Ana Toste of Manteca and nine grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service of Turlock.
