Turlock

Jose C. Nunes, 77, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Hospital with his family at his side.

Joe, as he was affectionately known, was the son of Alfredo and Augusta Nunes and born on December 8, 1933 in Terceira Azores. He immigrated to Brazil at the age of 17, were he worked in the Meat Locker business. He married Maria Manuela in 1956, also from azores Terceira and had two sons; Alfred and George.

He came to the USA in 1968 with his wife and kids. He worked in the dairy business in Tulare for many years until he started his own dairy in Turlock.

He was a very kind and generous man. He attended daily mass at Our Ldy of Assumption Church and enjoyed going to the bullfights and being with friends. He was preceded in death by his eldest son Alfred Nunes.

He is survived by his wife Maria Nunes, son George (Naidinge) Nunes, granddaughter Anna Nunes, brothers Alfred (Zelia) Nunes, Luis (Maria Jose) Nunes, sisters Fatima Pires, Celina (Joaquim) Mancebo and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2pm to 7pm on Monday July 25, 2011 with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7pm at Turlock Funeral Home 425 N. Soderquist Rd. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Tuesday July 26, 2011 at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Turlock, with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park 575 N. Soderquist Rd.
