Jill, a resident of Turlock, California and a teacher at Julien Elementary, for the last 29 years was ushered into her next stage of life on March 10, 2025 after battling cancer for several years. Born in Hayward, California on July 3, 1967, Jill moved to the Santa Rosa area where she spent most of her childhood years. Her parents Dayle Carlson and Nancy Scott-Huebsch shared with the duties of parenthood, adding step-mom, Elizabeth Carlson, and step-dad, Bill Huebsch, as time progressed.
While attending Chico State University, she majored in Liberal Studies and joined the Pi Phi Sorority. On a cold and rainy night, she interviewed and was offered a position with Turlock Unified School District (TUSD). After successfully negotiating out of a teaching position in Barstow, Jill became a red track, second-grade teacher, at Julien Elementary and moved to Turlock. After seven years at second grade, Jill moved to Julien’s POD program, which focuses on and values the extended family, the worth of the individual child, and individualized learning.
Jill taught kindergarten in the POD program for 22 years, where she dedicated herself to preparing young learners to be good citizens at Julien Elementary. Through engaging lessons, she instilled values of kindness, respect, and responsibility, fostering a strong sense of community among her students. By encouraging cooperation, problem-solving, and a love for learning, Jill helped lay the foundation for their success both in school and beyond.
During Jill’s first year of teaching, she was introduced to Dave Kline, a fellow teacher with TUSD. After their first date in October, Jill and Dave proceeded to move in together in October, become engaged in October, married in October, and had their first child in October (consecutive years). Following Emily, Abigail was born two years later. Both daughters, independent, intelligent, and strong, embraced their own unique paths to adulthood, forging their futures with determination and resilience. While their journeys differed, each have navigated life’s challenges with confidence, and success as both are officially off their parents’ payroll.
Jill is preceded in death by Elizabeth Carlson, father-in-law, Bill Kline, and, brother-in-law Sheldon Kline. She is survived by husband, Dave, daughters, Emily and Abigail, mother, Nancy, step-dad, Bill, father, Dayle, and his wife, Robin Roffey, sisters, Jennifer Carlson, and Sarah Carlson, mother-in-law, Eunice Kline, sisters-in-law, Kim Rose and Cami Kline-Pratt, brothers-in-law, Dave Rose, and Tim Pratt, and her caring extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Katy and Chris.
As can only be said in POD lingo, “Jill, we will choose to miss you.”
