Janet Humphreys passed away peacefully on April 9th due to Alzheimer’s disease, just five days shy of her 85th birthday. The second of four children born to John S. (Tex) and Marjorie Hardin in Modesto, California in 1933, she grew up and spent most of her life in Turlock. She excelled academically at Turlock High School (graduated 1951) and continued her education during her adult years culminating in a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership and School Administration.
Janet was blessed with three children: Rick Sawyer, Mike Sawyer (Pam), and Susan Sawyer Anderson (Glenn). She also enjoyed eight wonderful grandchildren: Zachary, Lindsay, Levi, Marissa, Spencer, Amos, Sam, and Lydia, as well as eight great-grandchildren (with two more on the way!). Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her younger brother, Arthur Hardin, and is survived by her older brother, John H. Hardin (Cuba) and sister, Linda Hardin Pool (George).
As a lifetime educator, she devoted her life and energy to teaching and coaching. She also loved vocal and instrumental music, teaching piano, swimming, gardening, Stanford football, and spending time at the beach. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
After a private interment at Turlock Memorial Park, there will be an outdoor celebration of life service and luncheon at 1:00 on Sunday May 6 at Crane Park, Area “C”, near the corner of Berkeley Ave. and Yosemite St. in Turlock. We invite family and friends to join us as we share stories and memories of Janet’s life. In Janet’s remembrance, please say thank you to a school teacher!
