Irving “Sonny” Smith, 96, of Hughson, was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He served in World War II and in the Korean War, and retired from the New York City Police Department after a 24-year career. He was married to his wife Helen for 67 years and had four children, 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Hughson; two sons, Peter G. (Anita) Smith of Staten Island, NY and John H. (Connie) Smith of Denair; two daughters, Betsy Leibu of Cold Spring Harbor, NY and Peggy Anne Tressler of Richmond, Va.; sister, Helen Hardy of Richmond Hill, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
