Irene Lilly Allen, 87, passed away at Paramount Court in Turlock on Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Allen Mortuary on Oct. 12. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13, also at Allen Mortuary, with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
Irene was born in Oklahoma to Charley and Katie Holland. In 1934, she moved to Porterville where she met her husband William “Bill” Allen and they were married in 1942. They lived in Las Vegas where her husband was stationed with the Army Air Corps, and later they moved to Los Angeles and had their son Gary. In 1952, they settled in Turlock, where she and William founded Allen Mortuary the same year.
Irene lived a very active life and had many interests including playing tennis, dancing and gardening. In her younger years, she enjoyed water-skiing with her son Gary. She was a member of several bridge clubs and the Turlock American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Gary of Turlock; grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Alison and Elizabeth Allen, all of Turlock; great grandchildren, Gabriela, Cadence, Matthew, Faith and Corbin; and siblings, Viola Daniele, Ruby Exe, and Cecil Holland, all of Fresno. She was preceded in death by her husband, William.
