Ida was born in Turlock to Manuel and Lena Furtado. She met her husband, Cliff Ramos and married in 1933. Ida and Cliff bought their first house, located at 406 N. Denair Ave., where they built a swimming pool and opened it up to family, friends and the neighborhood. Many people still remember her from those days and the generosity she extended to the people around them. Before leaving Turlock she worked part-time at J.C. Penny’s and Puccinelli’s Packing Company. During those days she was a member of the Turlock Horsemen’s Club, and Eagles Aux. Ida and Cliff moved to Hayward in 1956, and she became a self-taught bookkeeper for their retail meat business named C.R. Meats and located in Oakland. While in Hayward, she belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary (holding several offices), Fuchsia Club, Western Whirlers Square Dance Club, and a bowling group. On her return to Turlock in 1998 she became involved in New Comers Club and Native Daughters of the Golden West, holding several offices in those organizations. She also joined another bowling group and was still bowling at the age of 87. The Western Whirlers Square Dance Club evolved into the Western Whirlers Boat Club when all the couples went together and leased property at Lake Tulloch. Next to her family, which she loved dearly, she loved to spend time at her cabin that was built in 1963. Traveling was another great love of Ida’s. She traveled all over the world visiting some places twice. She loved reading, exercise, and being with her family. She also had a great love of flowers — wild flowers, roses, just about any kind, but her favorite flower was the sunflower. The sunflower reminded her of her childhood growing up on a 20-acre farm where she helped milk the cows and work in the fields. Her family will always remember her for her sense of adventure, her kindness and her generosity.
