Harvey Eugene Matson was born on August 7, 1934, to Paul and Olga Matson at their home on Golf Road in Turlock, California. He joined his siblings, Mary Ann Tanner and Norman, and later welcomed his younger
sister, Carolyn. A farm boy at heart, Harvey developed a love for agriculture early on,
proudly showing his Jersey heifers at the county fair and consistently bringing home blue ribbons. He attended Johnson Joint School and graduated from Turlock
High School in the Class of 1952. Though he loved sports, his responsibilities on the family farm prevented him from participating in high school athletics. However, his passion for the San Francisco 49ers, Giants, and Warriors remained strong throughout his life.
After high school, Harvey joined the National Guard, honoring his father’s wishes to avoid the draft while remaining available to help on the farm. In 1951, the family moved to Denair, and
Harvey, then a junior, purchased a 1951 Oldsmobile 88 to continue attending school in Turlock. He took great pride in keeping his green and white car spotless.
Harvey met Mable Elston while attending the Evangelical Free Church in Turlock, and they married in 1961, raising four children together. Over the years, he built a career as a dairyman,
salesman, and contractor. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, competing in tractor pulls at the fairgrounds, and golfing whenever possible.
In 1985, Harvey married Dorothy, and they made their home in Santa Barbara, California for many years while he worked as a contractor. In 2022, they retired to Spring Valley, California.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Ann Tanner. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Matson; his children, Greg Matson of Atwater, California, Gordon Matson of Salem, Oregon, Nancy Matson of Turlock, and Karen Olson of Modesto;
eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Norman Matson of Crescent City, California, and Carolyn Sanders of Turlock, California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews from the Tanner and Nutcher families.
Harvey enthusiastically loved God, his country, and President Trump. His faith was strong, and his hope was in the Lord. The family takes great comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven today with his Lord Jesus.
No formal service is planned, but a family Celebration of Life was held in his honor at Pageo Lavender Far.
