Harriet Alvernaz passed away peacefully on October 15, 2016 surrounded by her close family.
Harriet was born September 3, 1926 in Mason, Nevada to Warren and Hilda Mollart. She grew up in Yerington, Nevada and after graduating from Yerington High School, she decided to move to Texas and attend nursing school. She lived in Texas for only a short time when she took the offer to move to Turlock, California with her sister Ethel. It was there that she met and married Manuel Alvernaz in 1946. Together they raised their three children Sharon, Karen and Ted.
In 1961 she started working for the Turlock Journal. She made many lifelong friends during her 31 years of employment. She retired in 1992, and was then able to enjoy spending more time with her friends and family, including her red hat ladies.
Harriet was known for her generosity to others, her cheerfulness and positive attitude, her wonderful cooking and her love of cats.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Alvernaz in 1980; her mother, Hilda Mollart; her father, Warren Mollart; and siblings, Ethel Bouchie, George Mollart and grandson, Jeff Gioletti.
She is survived by her siblings, Evelyn Thompson of Yerington, Nevada and Ben Mollart of Sacramento, California, her children, Sharon Gioletti, Karen Barragan (Willie), and Ted Alvernaz; her grandchildren, Mark Cabral (Ana), Debbie Thomas (Bryan), Deena Dutra, Jessica Alvernaz, and Sara Colbert (Nick). She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Mon., Oct. 24, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, CA. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tues., Oct. 25, at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist, Rd., Turlock, CA.
