Emma was born on February 12, 1920 and laid to rest on July 8, 2011;
She was 91 years old.
Emma was one of eleven children born to David and Maria Hass from Romania.
During her childhood the Hass family lived in Romania and Germany (before it was divided into two.) She married Emil Schmidt in 1940 and when Hitler started infiltrating other countries the Schmidt and Hass families had to separate. Once the War was over, the families reunited in Germany and decided to immigrate. Some went to Canada and Emma and Emil came to America with their 2 children, Josef and Ernest in 1956.
They made a comfortable life for themselves. Emil worked at Christofferson's Turkey Plant and Emma had a guest home for many years retiring in 1988.
Emma was a member of Hermann's Sohne Stanislaus Lodge No. 50 for over 40 years.
Emma is survived by her son Ernest Schmidt, grandson Dan Schmidt and his wife Paula and great-granddaughters Emily and Abigail. Granddaughter Moni Schmidt and her fiancé Leonard McCartney and step great-grandchildren Kayla and Dylan McCartney. Granddaughter Deedrian Taylor and her husband Sieg Taylor and great-grandchildren Makenzee and Zackary. She is also survived by her sister Marie Oster of Germany and brother Willie Hass of Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews. Emma is preceded in death by her daughter, Annemarie, grandson Randy, husband Emil and son Josef.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm on Wednesday, July 13, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd, Turlock. A funeral will be held at 10am on Thursday, July 14, also at Turlock Funeral Home with burial following at Turlock Memorial Park.
