Eileen Walker, 89, passed away at her Turlock home on Nov. 8. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 at St. Francis Anglican Church in Turlock. A private Inurnment will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno at a later date.
Eileen was born in Chowchilla. Her family moved to Berkeley when she was 7. She graduated from Berkeley High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a nursing degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She served as a Navy nurse during World War II and was stationed for two years on Adak Island in the Aleutians. That is where she met her future husband John. After the war she attended the University of Washington and earned a Public Health Nurse Certificate. She worked for many years as a school nurse in Turlock and Ceres school districts.
Her grandparents were pioneers of the San Joaquin Valley. Her grandmother settled in Modesto in 1851. Her father was born in Modesto in 1872. Her mother was born in Stockton in 1878.
Eileen is survived by sons, Mark Walker of Turlock, Dan Walker and John Walker of Burbank; and grandchildren, Garth and Kelsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Walker, a former Turlock dentist.
