Loving Father and Grandfather

Dewey Lee Clendenen, 78, of Turlock, CA, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in the presence of family.

Dewey was born in Tulare, CA on August 15, 1945 to Joseph Woodard Clendenen and Reaber Gladys [Turner] Clendenen. They lived in Pixley, CA until the passing of Dewey’s father. When Dewey was five years old, Reaber moved the family – she and her eight children – to Turlock, CA, to a one-bedroom home on Vermont Avenue.

Dewey grew up in Turlock and had wonderful stories to tell of a fun and free childhood. He attended Hawthorne and Osborn Elementary Schools and Wakefield Middle School. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1963 and continued on to Modesto Junior College.

Dewey’s heart, mind, soul belonged to Christ. He faithfully served for three decades at Valley Christian Center in Ceres in the audio ministry and as a Sunday School teacher and recurring board member. He loved the word of God and the people of God, and as the dificulties of health weighed heavier and heavier on him he longed to see the Lord and spoke often of his thankfulness for his salvation.

Dewey worked hard all his life, especially in providing for his family, and retired after more than twenty years as in inspector for the USDA.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Roy Clendenen, Joseph Clendenen, Shirley Barnes, and Reba Hoex.

Dewey is survived by his children, Jason Clendenen and Nicole [Clendenen] Bumpus; his grandchildren, Kylee Bumpus and Madelyn Bumpus; and his siblings, Paul Clendenen, Betty Norwood, and Diane Winter.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 12th at 10:00am at Turlock Memorial Park.
