Funeral services for Charles Edward Wright will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway, in Turlock.
Born in Beggs, Okla. to Noah and Bertha Wright, his family lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Arizona. They moved to Oakdale, Calif. in the late 1930s. He graduated from Oakdale High in 1946. After 27 years of marriage, his first wife, Viola, passed away in 1970. He married Reba Maxine Morrow in 1973. Maxine predeceased him in December 2009 after 36 years of marriage. Charles passed away on Jan 21, 2010.
Chuck joined the U.S. Army in 1943. While stationed in Tomah, Wis. he met his first wife, Viola Attewell. They married in December 1943, in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1945, after his return from WW II, they settled in Oakdale and started their family. They had four sons and a daughter. From 1946-1948, Chuck partnered with his dad in an Oakdale roofing business. He served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1966. He then returned to Ceres. He worked for Norris Ind. and Louis Rich before finally retiring in 1988. Chuck and Maxine lived in Ceres until 1989, and then relocated to Turlock. They enjoyed traveling and camping with their 5th-wheel trailer for years.
Chuck and Maxine were faithful, active members of Sunrise Christian Church in Turlock, where Chuck served as deacon and elder. He was blessed by
relationships with Maxine's family including her son, Daryl; daughter, Lois; and their children and grandchildren. Chuck also enjoyed aviation, politics, religion, hunting, fishing, music (guitar and violin) and coin collecting. He was active in Masons and kept in touch with friends in the Air Force Sergeants Assoc., the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and the VFW.
