Carmine R. DeSomma, D.P.M. was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1931, the youngest of Antonio and Vingenzina DeSomma.

Carmine is survived by his wife, Reta DeSomma; his six children, Marina (David) Cummerow, Tony DeSomma, John DeSomma, Lorraine (John - deceased) Fauria, Daniel (Merry) DeSomma, Paul (Kari) DeSomma; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Carmine attended Leavenworth High School and went on to attend the University of Connecticut and the Illinois College of Podiatry.

He served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War as an Electrician. While stationed on the west coast, he met the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Reta.

They moved to California in 1961, where he opened the first podiatric office in Turlock. He also traveled to Los Banos once a week to take care of patients there and wrote a column in the Turlock Journal on proper foot care.

Carmine had a brilliant mind and was always thinking of different medicines and small inventions to help with various ailments of the feet and legs. It was a passion of his, and he was very proud of the time the San Francisco 49ers contacted him to utilize one of his inventions for quickly reducing swelling injuries. He was always happy that he could help others.

Sports was another passion of his. He enjoyed playing basketball with friends, was in a bowling league, and loved taking his children to wrestling and boxing matches.

Of course, there was always time for baseball and football.

Carmine loved his family and the friends that he had made in Turlock. Family picnics and outings were a must with all those he cared about.

Later in his life, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and loved traveling with his wife all over the United States and visiting family on the east coast.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints University Parish, 4040 McKenna Drive, Turlock, CA 95382. Following the mass, Carmine will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, CA 95380
