Betty Lou Brugger of Turlock passed away on July 23, 2024.

The daughter of Archie and Hazel (Seelye) Baker, she was born January 1, 1933, in Osceola, PA. Betty graduated from high school in Knoxville, PA in 1950 then attended Mansfield State College and Penn State. 

She met Theodore (Ted) Brugger while in a community band; they were married October 12, 1952, in the Presbyterian Church in Osceola, PA. In 1963 she and Ted moved their family to Turlock to be near her brother, Dr. Lyle A. Baker and his family.

Betty was employed at Richard and Chambers Stationers and Gift for 28 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served throughout the years as a member of both choir and bell choir, bake sale committee, Presbyterian Women and as a Deacon. Also active within the community, she was past vice-president of the Turlock Concert Association, obtained ushers for the

Turlock Community Theater, was a supporter of the CSU, Stanislaus Department of Music, served as food vendor and concert chairs for Skandi-Fest. She was a member of Chapter BY, P.E.O., involved with school P.T.A. groups, DeMolay Parents’ club, Tuesday Reading Club and D.A.R. Betty enjoyed baking, music, flowers, gardening, entertaining and, with her gift of hospitality, many events and weddings were held in their beautiful garden on La Salle Drive.

She leaves behind four children; Jim (Lisa) Brugger, Stephen (Michaela) Brugger, Susan Berli, Holly (Chris) Bonner, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces that were important in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents and two brothers, Lyle and Leland Baker.

Memorial services, with reception following, will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2619 N. Berkeley Avenue, Turlock, CA. The service will be livestreamed on the Church’s website: https://www.fpturlock.com/

The family sincerely thanks all the wonderful caregivers and staff at Covenant Living of Turlock, Cogir of Turlock and Global Hospice for their commitment to providing comfort, care and support through this transitional stage of life.
