(Barbara) Savon Edwards, 88, passed away peacefully December 9, 2012 in Delhi, CA surrounded by her family after a short illness. Savon was born April 30, 1924 in Fairfax, Virginia to Samuel Richards Riggles and Helen Elizabeth Jones, their sixth child of eleven children. She married Harold Edwards and they were married until Harold’s passing December 26, 1999.
Savon proudly worked for the Delhi School District for 22 years and was known to the countless ch.iJdren she served as “the Lunch Lady” before retiring in 1990. She was fondly known around town as “Our Cook,’’ but by her family she also bore the nickname “Grandma Chick,” as Savon was often seen in her yard doting on her many chickens and roosters.
Savon is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Edwards, her parents, Samuel and Helen Riggles, and 9 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mello (Joe), of Roseville, her son Joseph Mello Sr., of Delhi, and her daughter Diana King, of Delhi; her grandchildren, Joseph Mello (Robyn), Juliana Loconte (Nino), Jennifer Mello, Jeremy King (Janice), Joseph Mello Jr. (Dolores), Jason Mello (Katherine), April Parrish (Lee), and Sarah King, her sister Priscilla Goodspeed, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren
A funeral service will be held at Turlock Funeral Home 425 N. Soderquist Rd. at 2:00p.m Thursday December 13th, with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park 575 N. Soderquist Rd.
