Aurea Silveira Alvarado passed away at home unexpectedly. Aurea was born in Pico, Azores to Manuel and Maria DaSilveira. She came to the U.S. in 1957 at the age of 40. Aurea had dreamed all of her life of coming to America, and finally made the journey here. Though she continued to travel to the Azores to visit annually, she made California her home.
Aurea was widowed twice, and through her loss, she never had any children of her own. Aurea took to her nieces and nephews as they where her own. Aurea lived a very simple and thoughtful life, she took great pride in being an honest and giving woman. She was very honorable and valued her independence, never wanting to be in debt to anyone. She gave of herself freely and possessed a vibrant spirit, never giving into old age. She truly lived by the saying “you are as young as you feel.” Aurea had a great sense of humor, accompanied by a quick wit and warm heart.
Aurea is survived by her nieces and nephew, Maria H. Silveira and Luis Silveira, both of Turlock, Maria Clotilde Pimentel of Pico, Azores and Ester Duarte of Santa Clara; great nieces and nephews, Monique Silveira, Shane Silveira and Luis Silveira, Jr., all of Turlock, Anne Lino and Flora Freitas of Santa Clara, Joel DeMoura of Modesto and Sandra DeMoura of Faial, Azores; brother, Anibal Silveira of Turlock; and sister, Guiomar Lidia Silva of Azores.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Do Carmo Silva.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Allen Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Turlock Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2400 N. Olive Ave., Turlock. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
Allen Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements.
