A woman walking along a rural stretch of road on the outskirts of Turlock was struck by a pickup truck Monday night and died from her injuries, the California Highway patrol reported.

The deceased woman was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Melody Valverde, 65, of Turlock.

The collision happened around 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the area of Harding and Golf roads.

According to the CHP, Valverde was walking in the middle of Harding Road when she was struck by a 2015 GMC pickup truck that was headed east on Harding Road.

The driver of the pickup truck was Emmanuel Silva, 69, of Turlock. He was cooperating with the investigation, the CHP reported. Silva was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
