One person sustained minor injuries when a propane tank exploded in a van parked near a taco truck in Turlock Saturday afternoon, the Turlock Fire Department reported.
The explosion happened around 1 p.m. Saturday in the area of Glenwood and Lander avenues.
The van was being used to transport some propane tanks that had just been filled for the use of the taco truck.
What caused the propane tank to ignite is unknown at this time, but witnesses did report smelling propane just prior to the explosion, said Turlock Acting Fire Chief Gary Carlson.
The explosion completely totaled the van and caused damage to a nearby trailer, Carlson said.
Carlson said the fire department doesn't see a lot of propane explosions, but that when they do, it is usually caused "because the valve on the propane tank is left cracked by mistake and the propane finds an ignition source."
