The unemployment rate continued to drop in Stanislaus County, according to the latest numbers from the Employment Development Department.
Stanislaus County had an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent in September, down from a revised rate of 8 percent in August. The rate is below the year-ago estimate of 10.3 percent.
Stanislaus County recorded high job growth in the government sector in September and saw higher rates in the Professional and Business Services, according to the EDD data. Stanislaus County added an estimated 900 positions in the Government sector for the month and approximately 700 in the Professional and Business Services sector.
Stanislaus County's Farming sector added about 300 positions in September. The only other sector to post job increases for the month was Financial Activities, which added around 100 positions, according to the EDD.
Sectors in Stanislaus County that recorded job declines for the month were: Mining, Logging,
and Construction (100); Manufacturing (200); Trade, Transportation and Utilities (100); and Educational and Health Services (500). All other sectors were flat.
California's unemployment rate was at 6.4 percent for the month and the nation's was at 4.6 for the same time frame.
Turlock had an unemployment rate of 6 percent for September; Denair was at 6.6 percent; Hughson at 3.7 percent; Keyes at 8.5 percent; and Ceres was at 7.8 percent.
The EDD released data regarding the online job vacancies and the companies looking to hire for the month of September. The top 10 positions with the most job ads for the month in Stanislaus County were: Registered nurses - 585, which was down by 92 from the month prior; heavy and tractor-trailer drivers - 430, which was an increase of 127 from the previous month; retail salespersons - 365, which was down by 10 from August; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers - 274, which was a decrease of 10 from August; sales representatives wholesale and manufacturing except scientific and technical products - 258, which dropped by five from August; customer service representatives - 253, which was down by seven from the month prior; laborer and freight, stock and material movers - 239, which rose by four for the month; managers - 185, which dropped by 17 for the month; maintenance and repair workers - 176, which was a decrease of 33 from August; and combined food preparation and serving workers, including fast food – 161, which was up by four.
The top 10 companies posting the most online job vacancies in Stanislaus County in September were: Anthem Blue Cross - 407, down by 11; Tenet Health System - 226, down by 24; Sutter Health - 222, up by eight; Modesto City Schools - 146, down by 45; California State University, Stanislaus - 135, up by 11; E & J Gallo Winery — 133, up by 20; Ceres Unified School District - 88, up by three; Kaiser Permanente — 86, up by 11; Hospitals of Providence – 80, down by seven; and Yosemite Community College District — 78, up by 20.
