Every time news breaks that a new Starbucks location is being proposed in Turlock, complaints quickly fill the comment sections of social media posts. Those comments don’t seem to accomplish much, as a new Starbucks is being proposed across the street from a rival coffee shop and the Stanislaus State campus.

On May 23, the City of Turlock received an application to build a Starbucks location at the corner lot of 1100 W. Monte Vista Avenue within the same shopping center of Rite Aid, Fire Wings and Daraman. The Seattle-based coffee shop would sit across the way from Dutch Bros. Coffee and would be the 11th overall location and the seventh standalone Starbucks shop in Turlock.

For this latest proposal, the Starbucks shop would be 2,290 square feet with a walk-in and dine-in space, a double drive-through lane to accommodate for 13 vehicles at a time, and an outdoor patio space.

If approved, the construction of the new Starbucks would start in September and have an expected finishing date of April 2024.  The building would have an approximate occupancy of 65 to 70 people. Twenty to 25 employees would also be needed.

As for the outdoor space surrounding the proposed new building, there will be hardly any changes. Landscape is already updated, and the existing parking would accommodate almost any new business that would occupy the empty corner space. Official plans also show that no new driveways would be added to the shopping center.

The application is currently under review by city staff.
