The Turlock Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is looking forward to a bright 2014, as the tourism marketing organization hopes to bring some new ideas for the upcoming year.
During the Dec. 10 City Council meeting, CVB Chair John Jaureguy shared with the council members that the organization — an advisory committee of the Chamber of Commerce — hopes to achieve more things with the same number of dollars.
“Although our 2014 budget is not changing, we are hoping that we’ll be able to do some new things this coming year,” said Jaureguy. “For example, we really hope to work more with the Turlock Film Commission.”
Although unrelated to the CVB, the Turlock Film Commission has made strides of its own recently, having brought the filming of Corbin Bernsen’s new movie “Christian Mingle” to Turlock — an accomplishment that the CVB hopes to continue.
“We really think that we can make Turlock a filming destination, and we hope to build on that,” said Jaureguy.
Aside from bringing the silver screen to town, the CVB is hoping to bring two new types of Turlock tours to life, with one focusing on Turlock’s agriculture and the other on business.
“By bringing an Agri-tour, we could bring in a regional effort to help bring awareness to fresh food and where it comes from,” said Jaureguy. “This is something that we’ve been asked about, so it is demand driven and we’re currently talking with various bus companies and local farmers.”
The other tour, focusing on commercial and economic development, would allow perspective businesses looking to locate to Turlock the opportunity to see how moving to the city could be beneficial for their company.
“It would be nice for the CVB to have a tour already in the hopper,” said Jaureguy. “It can be customized of course, but we won’t have to build from scratch every time.”
Through various marketing efforts, the CVB has a mission of bringing visitors to the Turlock area while helping bolster the local economy.
The 2014 CVB budget of $211,645 is equivalent to the 2013 budget and will continue to provide several programs and services focusing on community outreach, signage, publications, and economic impact measurement.
