With more rain projected this weekend and overnight temperatures expected to dip into the low 30s next week, the county has opened designated warming zones across the county.

In Turlock, warming zones are open at the Roger K. Fall Transit Center, 1418 N. Golden State Blvd; the Turlock Public Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave.; and the Turlock Gospel Mission, 437 S. Broadway.

The warming facility at the transit center is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.

The library warming center is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and closed on Friday and Sunday.

Turlock Gospel Mission’s warming center is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Overnight shelter also is available at the Turlock Gospel Mission beginning at 4:30 p.m. and at the We Care Program, 221 S. Broadway, beginning at 6:15 p.m.

“Our normal (overnight) occupancy has been full the last several weeks,” said Christian Curby, executive director at Turlock Gospel Mission. “We’ve gotten permission from the City to have overflow beds available in our dining facility.”

According to Curby, TGM and We Care normally see an uptick in overnight utilization beginning in late October or early November, lasting until the spring.

“In addition to warming areas, we also have hot meals, pet food, case-management services, transportation … a lot of daytime services are available,” said Curby.
