A pair of empty retail spaces located in major shopping centers in north Turlock have new tenants.

Last week, the doors officially slid open to HomeGoods, located at 2851 Countryside Drive within the Monte Vista Crossing shopping center. And early this week, a banner was hung atop the lot at 3101 Geer Road inside the Valley View Plaza across from Stanislaus State, announcing that a new Grocery Outlet Bargain Market would soon be moving in.

The Grocery Outlet will move into the space formerly occupied by Big Lots, which left the plaza in 2022 in favor of a larger, newer space on 1840 Countryside Side Drive.  It would be the second Grocery Outlet  in Turlock, joining the location at 1330 West Main Street.

There is not yet a timetable for its opening, but it comes after the California-based grocer recorded a significant successful 2023 and first quarter of 2024. Grocery Outlet recorded an increase in net sales by 10.9% to $2.97 billion during 2023 from the year prior. In the first fiscal quarter of this year, net sales increased by 7.4% to $1.04 billion. There are more than 460 Grocery Outlets across California, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Nevada, Maryland, New Jersey and Ohio.

As for HomeGoods, a sister store to TJ Maxx and Marshalls, they take over a space formerly home to Bed, Bath & Beyond that closed in 2021.In recent years, the space has hosted Spirit Halloween in the fall months.

HomeGoods specializes in home decor, furniture, bed and bathroom supplies and items for kids and pets. And like Grocery Outlet, TJ Maxx companies experienced a massively successful 2023 and start to 2024. Their 53-week fiscal year that ended on Feb. 3 saw net sales of roughly $54.2 billion, an increase of about 9% from the year prior. On May 4, they reported first quarter net sales of $12.5 billion, an increase of 6% of that time a year ago.

There are 922 HomeGoods located across the United States. The nearest is currently in Tracy while there is another coming soon to Riverbank.

HomeGoods is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
