Less than a month away, the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Parade is on the schedule for April 12.
This ‘rain or shine’ event is seeking entries, with the downtown parade a key component of Rodeo Weekend in the Cowboy Capital.
Deadline to sign up for the parade is March 31 and there is a $35 entry fee, payable to the Oakdale Saddle Club Parade, P.O. Box 1436, Oakdale, CA 95361.
Parade coordinator is Sutton Price, with Jaylind Kilgore serving as parade co-coordinator.
The staging location for the parade is at the intersection of West F Street and Oak Avenue on Oakdale’s west end; staging on the morning of the parade begins at 7 a.m. and the April 12 parade steps off promptly at 9 a.m.
There are several parade classifications for entries and the various groups and floats will be judged by the Oakdale Saddle Club and KAT Country. For entries that will be performing in front of the judges, there is a time limit of no more than 60 seconds by any entrant.
The annual Oakdale Saddle Club PRCA Rodeo will bring competitors in for the two-day competition, April 12 and 13, and there are also a number of activities leading up to the rodeo, staged throughout the week prior to the PRCA event. The festivities begin with local team roping at 7 p.m. April 8. This event, sponsored by Campfire Meats, features amateur ropers who live within 50 miles of Oakdale. The winners receive a cash prize and a new belt buckle, but the real prize for the winners is the bragging rights. The 2025 Rodeo Queen coronation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 10 at the Cowboy Museum Mixer, 355 East F St. These young women will compete in speech, horsemanship, ticket sales and photos. The winner will represent the Oakdale Rodeo throughout the state at rodeos and other local parades and events. Timed event slack will be held starting at 8 a.m. April 11. Timed events including team roping, tie down-roping and steer wrestling and women's breakaway roping will be featured in this morning’s events. Barrel racing slack will be held following the timed event slack on April 11. The Oakdale Rodeo Parade will start at 9 a.m. April 12, followed by the first PRCA rodeo performance at 1:30 p.m. The Oakdale Rodeo Dance will be held staring at 7:30 p.m. on April 12. This event features live music, dancing and adult beverages at the Saddle Club’s clubhouse.
Cowboy Church will start events at 10 a.m. April 13. And the second PRCA rodeo performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. April 13.
All events will be hosted at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds at 1624 E F St., Oakdale.
