The spacious conference hall at the New Life Christian Center at 2918 W. Tuolumne Rd. in Turlock will once again be bustling with employers and individuals on the hunt for a new position next month at the City of Turlock’s annual job fair.
This year’s fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 13. It will be held in partnership with the Employment Development Department (EDD) and the Turlock Chamber of Commerce.
City of Turlock Economic Development Director Anthony Sims explained that the decision to continue hosting a job fair has come after speaking with business owners as part of their Business Visitation Program, where he and his team aim to meet with 100 local businesses each year.
“Through these meetings, we strive to foster meaningful relationships while identifying the challenges these businesses encounter. By doing so, we can effectively connect them with the resources necessary to address and overcome these obstacles,” he said.
“A primary challenge that businesses face remains recruitment. Organizing a job fair presents a valuable opportunity for local employers and job seekers to connect and gain insights about one another. We are committed to providing ongoing resources and strategies that will support and enhance the efforts of our local employers as well as the job-seeking community.”
There are currently 43 employers confirmed to attend, with another 10 or so expected to commit by the end of the week. A few companies to note that will be in attendance include:
- United States Cold Storage
- Supherb Farms
- Sensient
- California Dairies
- Hilmar Cheese
- Stanislaus County Office of Education
- Reed Family Companies
- Boyett
- Bronco Wine
- Golden Valley Health Center
- American Medical Response
- City of Turlock
- Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department
Those planning on attending are encouraged to dress for success and bring a resume. Aside from being able to discover local job opportunities and meet and interview with employers, there will be information booths offering information on training and developmental resources, as well as resume critiques.
“Job fairs foster local economic growth by connecting businesses with potential employees, helping to reduce unemployment rates. Such events enhance community engagement, allowing residents to network and learn about various career opportunities. Additionally, showcasing a diverse range of employers attracts talent and encourages workforce development. Ultimately, the job fair can stimulate and encourage collaboration between local businesses and the community, contributing to a stronger, more resilient economy,” Sims continued.
While there have been numerous job fairs in the city and county in years past, this is the third hosted by the City of Turlock and their community partners. The first year in 2022, the event hosted roughly 50 employers and welcomed 130 job seekers. Last year, there were 55 employers present and 240 job seekers. This year, the city expects the fair to draw similar numbers based on early inquiries and expressed interest from community members.
