One of the most anticipated days of the year for the small town of Denair is fast approaching.

The Denair Farm and Family Festival will be back for its 14th year on Sept. 14, and organizers are hoping it can be bigger and better than ever.

Event chairman James Shehan said that there will be something for everybody during the festivities, which has been held annually since 2010 (with the exception of the coronavirus pandemic-impacted 2020) in hopes of promoting the city and all they have to offer.

“It’s definitely a lot of planning and it can get a bit stressful, but we love to do it and we always figure it out,” he said. “The community loves it and we certainly love putting it on for them.”

The festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with the popular parade, which will feature about 20 vintage tractors and other types of farm equipment, as well as vehicles from the Denair Fire Department. Headlining the parade will be the antique steam tractor from Bay Area organization Kinetic Steam Works. The historic tractor, which Shehan described as “amazing,” first made its debut at the Denair festival last year. Also along for the ride will be this year’s participants of the Little Miss Denair pageant, who will be  horse-drawn wagons.

Numerous events, like a watermelon eating contest, a milk chugging competition, pedal tractor races, and homemade ice cream workshops will take place.

In addition to the approximately 130 vendors signed up, which will match the largest turnout ever that was accomplished a year ago, there will be an expanded play area with larger inflatables for the kids and a beer garden for the adults, located in the parking lot of new Mexican restaurant Tito’s Bar and Grill and hosted by the Denair Lions Club. Tito’s will join several of the vendors in offering food.

“We try to have something for everybody, something for the kids, something for adults. This is really an event for all members of the community and for folks visiting our town,” said Shehan.

Vendors are currently being highlighted through the festivals’ official social media accounts, which is @DenairFestival on both Facebook and Instagram. More information on the 2024 Denair Farm and Family Festival can be found at www.denairfestival.com.
